St. James's Church Piccadilly, London, UK During a brief trip to the UK last fall my wife and I spent some time roaming the streets of London and Edinburgh. I tried to pop into churches that had open doors when I had the time, and St. James was one such site we stumbled upon. At the time of our visit their yard was over run by a food truck festival, which I believe may have been a fund raiser. We explored a bit, however due to these circumstances my photographs are primarily limited to the interior as opposed to the outside architecture and grounds. Over the course of working on Pillars & Foundations, I began following several "Church Crawling," forums in social media, and through this I often heard of Sir Christopher Wren , famed architect of St. Paul's Cathedral (I also visited St. Paul for a choir recital, unfortunately they are very prohibitive with photography so I'm on the fence on whether I'll put together a post with the several exterior ...

St. Alfege Park and Church, Greenwich, England, UK St. Alfege's Church when I visited last fall was unfortunately, both closed, and under construction. Therefore many of my pictures here are of the Cemetery associated with it, or "Park," as it functions as now. St. Alfege was named for the Archbishop of Canterbury who was martyred or murdered by the Danes at this location in 1012. The church is where King Henry VIII, was said to be baptized. The Church Website has a very illustrative and informative history webpage that is worth a visit. The current church re-built in 1711 suffered damage during a bombing in 1941 (WWII), and the rebuilding largely occurred in 1946. I'm also including the Wikipedia link here because it has quite a bit of history as well, however, I'll note a couple of the dates seem to deviate marginally from those on the church's webpage. St. Andrew's and Saint George's West, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK This church is situated in the New Town portion of Edinburgh, prominently located on George St. The church is part of the Church of Scotland and runs an active and progressive congregation. Further details about the church can be found at their website here . History: For information on the history of St. Andrew's and Saint George's West, I primarily found details on the church website itself . It was built shortly after the construction of the New town in 1784, and a spire was later added 1787. The binary name of the congregation owes to past consolidation of a few churches (St. Lukes, St George's and St. Andrews), however it only bears the name of St. Andrew's and St. George's.
