Union Chapel, Interdenominational House of Worship by the Sea, North Hampton, NH

It's been a while, a year actually since I've posted in Pillars & Foundations. The thought has been there however like many I've tried to navigate this altered state that we exist in. Like many of you I've sought out different methods of managing my peace of mind. For me it has been escaping to nature when I can for look solitary walks in the forest. While not a solid excuse, my blogging has certainly taken a hit by re-dedication of time. Of course my exploration of community institutions, and places of worship has also taken a hit by curbs on social gatherings. I suspect these days I would get more strange looks showing up somewhere I don't regularly attend, with the justified concerns of people, and often reduced attendance of services. At the end of this summer I happened upon Union Chapel in North Hampton, NH when my wife and I were visiting the gorgeous Fuller Gardens . Madonna Queen of the Universe National Shrine, East Boston, Massachusetts Pillars & Foundations was initiated as an exploration communities as well as faith through religious institutions. My intent is to share experiences, and spread the positivity that I observe. Faith centers embody a drive to make a difference which they deliver upon, regardless if it is with one person looking for hope & community, or a recipient of their expansive charitable work. This post took to the fringes of what I'd consider my neighborhood, and shows how much there can be to see right in our own back yards that we take for granted. For many years the sign on the side of Rt. 1A intrigued me but I never took the time to explore it. For whenever I saw it, despite being a twenty minute drive away, I was headed to a destination, perhaps the airport, or a business along the road. My intent is to share my experiences, and spread the positivity I obtain from them. Faith centers embody a drive to make a difference which they deliver upon, regardless if it is with one person looking for hope & community, or a recipient of their expansive charitable work. The Building & the History of the Parish I used to live close by on Pleasant St. in Melrose, and I was always impressed by this building. As seemed to be a smaller wooden, community church, that was designed in the fashion of a grand stone church. In recent times the parish chose to replace the wooden shingles with vinyl siding, however as you can see from the pictures, it was done carefully and tastefully, and the ornate features of the awnings, accents around the rose window and other windows are preserved. Saint Patrick Parish, Lawrence, MA Pillars & Foundations was started as an effort to explore my surrounding communities through their religious institutions, and to share my experiences. These institutions share a drive to make a difference which they deliver upon, regardless if it is with one person looking for hope & community, or a recipient of their charitable work. History/Building This church dates from 1869 . Construction of the church was begun in 1881, and the upper church was completed in 1894 ( courtesy of history information on parish website ). Saint Patrick Parish boasts an upper church and a lower church. I attended Mass in the lower church. At some point I will need to return to experience Mass in the upper sanctuary.
